From The Editor November 2018

Dear readers,

A lot has been happening in the IT and finance sector. Fintech as a distinct sector is perhaps not visible yet, but it can certainly be felt. Regardless of public perception, fintech as a separate field continues to emerge steadily with its own separate identity. Everything from the introduction of uniform tariff for the telecom operators to the ambitious eGov projects is related to fintech, and our efforts are dedicated to document that to present to our readers.

We talk to the Michael Foley, CEO of Grameenphone to shed light on how the biggest company in the telecom sector is organizing and evolving with the ever-changing market. In our cover story we look at the only two local CBS providers and present insight on what it takes to deliver such a big product to the banks and financial institutions.

We are thrilled to introduce readers to our new column ‘GeoFin’ by Shafquat Rabbee. A US-based Bangladeshi writer and academic with long professional experience in the banking sector, Shafquat has amassed a large following with his witty and impactful writings on Facebook. But outside of his social media stardom, Shafquat’s intriguing analyses on important issues makes him one of the most noteworthy young writers. Fittingly, he has published with prestigeous mainstream newspapers in Bangladesh, as well as with reputed international media. We are delighted to welcome him as Fintech’s columnist.

Our regular coverage of the financial and IT sectors continue, with feature interviews of important figures in the industry. And as always, we look forward to hearing from our readers about what you liked and disliked about this magazine.

Wishing you a cool November
