JAAGO to build youth as future leaders

The Future We Want: Chattogram Chapter

With the aim of helping young people to reach their full potential, JAAGO Foundation organized “THE FUTURE WE WANT- Promoting Youth in Civic Engagement, Education, Employment and Entrepreneurship” in collaboration with International Labor Organization (ILO) and UNICEF with the theme of Generation Unlimited.

The seminar in this regard took place at Hotel Agrabad on December 27 2019 in Chattogram. Previously this dialogue was held in Sylhet on December 20.

This program facilitated dialogues, activities and group discussions for preparing young people with knowledge, skills and establish networks to build youth as leaders for the future.

Around 75 youth participated in the seminar from diverse background. The participants of this dialogue were students enrolled in vocational training, youth engaged in informal employment, school dropouts, university students, and youth entrepreneurs.

Khadija Khondker from International Labour Organization (ILO) talked about ILO’s contribution of 100 years in the World of work promoting social justice.. Ms. Khondker has also shared the goal and target of UNICEF and ILO’s Global partnership on Generation Unlimited, which aims to enable the largest generation of 1.8 billion young people to become productive and engaged members of society.

Tony Michael Gomes facilitated the session ”What Youth Want”. In this session, he shared some of the information regarding opportunities for the Bangladeshi youth. Then he discussed about the statistics of top reasons for unemployment in Bangladesh and barriers. He discussed about major challenges of youth in getting jobs, what computers can do in next 10 years, and how to reach the future we want.

Like in Sylhet, Sourav Saha from JAAGO Foundation took a session on basic life skills – Art of Presentation.

The program ended in a group work. The participants were given a set of questions to bring out the answers to some key answers to some key questions.

The seminar was also ornamented by the presence of Head Teacher, UCEF Chattogra Abdul Alim, Associate Professor and Departmental Head of Human Resource Management, Chittagong Independent University (CIU) Dr. Moslehuddin Chowdhury Khaled, Instructor of Chattogram Polytechnic Institute Mr. Swarup Karmakar Niloy, Principal (in-charge) of Chattogram Mohila Technical Training Centre, Ashrifa Tanzim, Former Instructor of Shyamoli Ideal Polytechnic Institute, Chattogram with other delegates.
