NBR extends tax return submission deadline up to Dec 31

BSS

National Board of Revenue (NBR) today extended the deadline for submission of income tax returns by one month up to December 31, 2020 due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem informed about the time extension to journalists at the NBR Bhaban in the city’s Segunbagicha area on November 30.

Muneem said, “The deadline for submission of income tax returns has been extended by one month due to COVID-19 situation. Those who are yet to submit their tax returns will now be able to submit those until December 31,”

Today (November 30) was the last date for submission of income tax returns without fine.

Earlier on yesterday, the NBR announced that the deadline for submission of income tax returns would not be extended this year.

But, due to the COVID-19 situation and also to facilitate the taxpayers to pay their taxes without any hassle, the NBR changed their decision today and thus extended the timeframe.

Meanwhile, the taxpayers thronged the countrywide tax zones in large numbers as it was supposed to be the last day for submission of income tax returns without penalty. The taxpayers were also seen in long queue for submitting their returns at the tax zones.
